Like many perfumers, Ruth fell into perfumery by accident. After finishing a chemistry degree at Oxford, she then went on to join Selfridge's Graduate Trainee programme and gravitated towards the perfumery. Ruth discovered that she could use her chemistry background, along with artistry, to create fragrances. Her fragrance has been influenced by the smells she has come across on her travels. "In America I woke up to the smell of woods and streams; then when I returned to England there was the sensory delight of my aunt and uncle's garden."
Ruth says that it took a long time to achieve exactly the right blend, as it was so personal. "I have designed my fragrance to evolve from top notes of bergamot, mandarin, pink peppercorn, blackcurrant and pineapple, through to the heart notes of rose, lily and jasmine, finally to the rich base notes of exotic woods: patchouli and sandalwood, with oak moss and musk.
